Many Oregonians are currently questioning our Governor’s decision to re-mask our school children for this upcoming year.  Governor Kate Brown recently declared that the mandates were ended and that each local county would have the authority to decide what is best for their citizens in relation to Covid and etc.  She declared that there would be no more lock downs and that her emergency powers would end for good in December 2021.

So what happened?  Suddenly she has backtracked in declaring that she intends to go along with CDC guidelines, putting Oregonians back into the same position as before.   In her campaign to vaccinate Oregonians, Governor Brown intends to vaccinate children under the age of 18 years.  Is this mask mandate an attempt to manipulate parents into vaccinating their underage children?  The FDA has not “approved” the vaccines as of yet and all three are currently issued under  Emergency Use Authorization.   We can keep a tab on adverse  reactions of these vaccines through the FDA reporting systems.   FDA expects vaccine manufacturers to include in their EUA, a plan for active follow-up for safety, including deaths, hospitalizations, and other serious or clinically significant adverse events, among individuals who receive the vaccine under an EUA, to inform ongoing benefit-risk determinations to support continuation of the EUA.  We can keep tabs on the adverse effects of each vaccine through the FDA “Event Reporting Systems”, Some of these systems are (VAERS), the Vaccine Safety Datalink (VSD), the Biologics Effectiveness and Safety (BEST) Initiative, and Medicare claims data.

Are our freedoms to control our own health hanging in the balance?  Oregonians believe that is the case.  Our state has been shut down for over a year.  Our businesses are in jeopardy as the Governor placed OSHA in charge of financial penalties for noncompliance.  Our children lost a year of school and now are ordered by the Governor to mask up for a second year, putting our youngsters in harms way by blocking their breathing.  Is this a form of abuse of power? Just recently as the mass vaccine campaign was ongoing, we saw our Universities segregating students by separating the vaccinated from the unvaccinated.  This goes against the Oregon Constitution as Article 1 Section 20 states:  “No law shall be passed granting any citizen or class of citizens, privileges, or immunities, which upon the same terms, shall not equally belong to all citizens”.  The Oregon Constitution directly prohibits any law or regulation authorizing vaccine passports, or creating two standards for vaccinated and unvaccinated. Are “Guidelines” law?

the governor has two different forms of emergency powers: the power to prohibit certain acts and the power to waive or suspend laws.  “Prohibitions” issued by the governor under the first part of the emergency authority statute (RCW 43.06.220(1)) last as long as the state of emergency remains in effect and do not require approval from the Legislature to extend. The governor issued the “Stay Home, Stay Healthy” order under this part of the law.  “Waivers or suspensions of law” issued under the second part of the emergency authority statute (RCW 43.06.220(2)) are limited to a 30-day duration, and extensions require the approval of the Legislature.

Now that we are upon a new school year, parents have the right to attend their district school board meetings to voice their opinions.  Check on your board meetings so that you may attend or send letters to the board voicing your concerns.  Call your local and state representatives to do the same.  As a parent your responsibility is to your children.
